Freely and Fluidly: Ending 2 (Actions Speak Louder than Words)
"Excuse me Kawamura-senpai, I have to go."
Blinking, Kawamura watched yet again as Sakuno ran off, Tomoka waiting for her a few feet away. Those two had been avoiding him for awhile, and he wanted to get down to the bottom of it. Turning on his heel, Kawamura headed back to the tennis courts.
Fuji watched him pass, sighing inwardly.
'It's best if you don't know.'
**********
"He'll find out sooner or later." Sakuno reasoned. Tomoka shook her head.
"No! Sakuno we made a promise, we swore that we wouldn't tell." Sakuno sighed, her head drooping as she let her eyes fix to the floor. "It'll be harder to accept if we told him." Tomoka said. Sakuno nodded.
"I know. It's just… he's already dying inside a little more everyday. What difference would it make?" She asked. Tomoka turned away.
"It would be better if he found out from her." The two best friends didn't talk about it for the rest of the day.
**********
Kawamura opened his locker, blinking as an enveloped floated down to land at his feet. Crouching down, he picked up it and flipped it to the front side. In nice and neat handwriting, was his name.
Kawamura Takashi
There is something you desperately need to know. Please wait after school at the sakura trees near the tennis courts.
It wasn't signed, he noted. Stuffing the piece of paper into his school bag, the senior high school student made his way to his next class. Tomoka and Sakuno were peeking from around the aisle of lockers, watching him walk away.
Their eyes were filled with sadness.
**********
"Is anyone here?" Kawamura asked, putting his tennis bag down as he walked a little further amongst the sakura trees. Quiet steps alerted him to someone's presence, and he turned around to see her standing and smiling at him through her tears.
I love you.
She had mouthed the words. His hands shook as he realized that no sound was coming out of her mouth. The tears were trailing down her face freely, reaching her chin before dropping onto the ground. He took a step forward, reaching for her.
The first thing he felt was the dampness of her tears, and then her skin. Hugging her to him, he wished to hear the softness of her voice, but he knew that would never come.
"I missed you." He said, choking back the sobs. "And… I love you too. Welcome home, ."
smiled, tightening her embrace on him.
Yes. Home.
