Canada Day ‘08

July 3rd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal, Photolog, Winnipeg

It was Canada’s birthday last Tuesday (July 1) and I had nothing else to do at home but relax (don’t blame me, I’m completing my 2-straight weeks of shift since yesterday). Since I anticipated this break, Cheree and I planned to go swimming at her place. She’ll be busy too since she got in to the Faculty of Nursing and her schedule will be hectic starting this summer.

I haven’t been to their backyard before because they just got their house not too long ago (I used to hang out at their old place, which is a 10-15 minute drive from my place). I thought it was going to rain at first because there were dark clouds when I woke up, but the sun shone eventually. More »

Bucaccino’s / The Cupcakery

June 25th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal, Photolog, Winnipeg

Went out today for a planned lunch date with Erica, whom I haven’t seen in months (last time was like, around November, with Julie). I figured that my birthday discount at Bucaccino’s is about to expire, so might as well use it while I have my day off.

Food is good, as usual. Had a great time hanging out with Erica and caught up with things and such. More »

Social Person

Last week can be summed up in two words: BUSY and EXPENSIVE. I didn’t buy anything, really, it’s just that I went to two socials for two consecutive days. And Socials mean I have to pay for tickets, drinks and raffle/silent auction. But I think it’s fine though, considering that I don’t get to see my friends that much now.

Friday, I had to attend Sybil’s cousin’s social at Franco-Manitobain at Provencher. It was a huge party. Lem and Tristan went to my house first and then my dad and mom brought them at work because they need to pick me up. More »

Ang Pagsundo

June 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal, Photolog, Society, Winnipeg

Anyway, so ayun.

Universal Scent

Eto na naman ako sa mga trivial na bagay na napapansin ko, he he.

It rained last Friday and yesterday here in Winnipeg, and it just so happened that I worked at my other job where I usually walk for 15 minutes in order to get there (5-minute bus ride muna bago lakad). Since walang kuwenta ang payong sa bahay and it was raining really hard (dagdag ko na rin pala na malakas din yung hangin), I decided to hail a taxi. My work isn’t really far from my place, but since the weather isn’t cooperating, I might as well take a different mode of transportation without getting myself drenched.

Nga pala, I find the last statement weird, especially that I spent 17 years experiencing numerous typhoons back in the Philippines. But anyway.

When I took the taxi yesterday morning, I noticed something: TAXIS HAVE THE SAME SCENT. It’s weird. I took taxis in the Philippines before (when I go to Manila/Makati area) and if you just rule out the smell of air fresheners, the quality of air inside taxis is SOMETHING. Sa Pilipinas palang yan. When this thought occured to me, I realized na pareho yung amoy ng taxi na sinakyan ko kahapon at yung sinakyan ko sa Philippines.

Could someone please tell me what causes taxis to have this kind of air? Because it’s… baffling. I don’t know.

22nd Birthday

June 3rd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Food, Personal, Photolog, Winnipeg

Yesterday I celebrated my 22nd birthday. I just booked the day off just to relax (since I usually spend my days working) so basically, nothing really “eventful” happened, he he. Plus, my mother and I decided to have the “bigger” celebration on Saturday since most people are free that day. Today is my mother’s birthday, btw.

Before I proceed to write what happened last night, I just want to thank everyone who sent me a message over at Y!M; those who posted on my Facebook Wall and Friendster comments page, and those who greeted me over at my journal and their LiveJournals. I really really appreciate it. Thank you!

Anyhow, so what really happened yesterday was that I just spent the night hanging out with a couple of my friends. I had dinner with Tristan, Joann and Lemarie at Confusion Corner located at 500 Corydon Ave. Joann started her new part-time job and Tristan just got back from his one-week vacation in Calgary, so that’s what we’ve been talking about that night. We just talked and laughed the night because, well, we were there to celebrate and have fun! More »

Day Off

May 15th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, Photolog, Winnipeg

Sa wakas, nagka-day off din after an 11-straight day shift from my two p/t jobs! Intense eh! So yesterday I went out with Tristan and Lem to get a breather. We went to Pancake House for a heavy brunch, and then we walked to Jubilee to visit Bridge Drive-In (my second time; Tristan’s first), and then went to Grant Park to check out McNally Robinson and then went to watch Iron Man. Si Tristan napanood na niya yun so nag-solo flight siya at nanood ng Made of Honor, he he! More photos under the cut. More »

Why are they kicking out the good old Bookman?

May 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in University of Manitoba, Winnipeg

I just got an e-mail from The Bookman last night. The Bookman is an independent used bookseller in Winnipeg, and he sometimes sells books at the U of M. Anyway, the Bookman sent an e-mail to his patrons because the University’s Special Functions got an order to not allow the Bookman to sell books at the campus anymore because he’s seen as a competitor of the University Bookstore.

It doesn’t make any sense to me. First, the Bookman isn’t at the campus everyday. For me, I don’t think a 4-day stay within like, I dunno, a 2-month period at the campus will really hurt the U of M Bookstore’s revenue. Also, not all of the books being sold by The Bookman are available at the U of M Bookstore. I think this is the reason why some people go visit used bookstores in general — they have rare/hard-to-find books and these stuff aren’t easily available on commercial bookstores.

I’m not at the U of M this year, but I’ve been buying books from the guy. It just annoys me that this has to happen, really. :(
