Brown Out Bowling

April 20th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg

Tapos na exams ko! Yehey! So after ko magsulat ng test ay sinundo ako ni Jon at pumunta kaming KP with the rest of our friends (aptly called “Brown Out” kasi All-Pinoy event siya; hehe, kaso andun yung bf ng isang kaibigan namin eh di siya Pinoy, pero oki lang). May plano kasi kaming mag-bowling that day so ayun.

Anyhow yung mga “plano” naman namin ay hindi talaga natuloy. Muntik pa ngang di pa matuloy yung bowling, hehehe. Pagsundo kasi namin kila Hazel eh pinakain na kami, so na-cancel yung supposedly dinner namin sa Buffet Square. Well, libre naman yung pagkain so tipid, hehe. Napadpad pa kami sa The Forks at nakakita ng mga naka-robot costume. Hindi ko alam bakit nagganun sila. More »

Last-minute realizations

After 108 university credit hours (12 credits to go) and 4 years in university, I should say, man, I really do love to hurt myself. LOL.

Boo!

ASIA2670 Required Readings Book Review

April 7th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Books, Japanese Literature, University of Manitoba

I finished reading all the required books/novels for my ASIA2670 class!

I know I have to write something about the books that I’ve read. Overall I enjoy reading all of them and majority managed to find their way on my favorite books list.

Without further ado… More »

Paper

March 31st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Asides, Japanese Literature, University, University of Manitoba

Am in the process of writing the first draft of my essay for ASIA2670. I’m writing about Murakami Haruki. It feels weird that I am actually picking on one of the authors that I like, but hey, maybe this is the way I show my appreciation towards his works. But to tell the truth it’s a bit difficult writing about him and his books because my thoughts are, apparently, differ from what a majority of his fans think. They see him as a postmodern writer, but I don’t really see him as such. Siguro baka magtaka ang mga tao when they learn that I see Murakami as a traditional Japanese writer (even though I know that he is influenced by Western authors). Basta, ibubuhos ko na lang ‘to sa paper.

Deadline of the Deadlines

March 24th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Asides, Personal, University, University of Manitoba

12 more requirements (including 3 final exams on the 3rd week of April). I still have to go over a bunch of readings (particularly in 3 classes) kasi masipag ako, ha ha! Hay. Gusto ko nang matapos ‘to. Dito dumadating yung time na kahit ano na lang basta matapos na, pero kapag nakakuha naman ako ng “kahit ano na lang” na grade, saka naman papasok sa isip ko ang “shit, I could have done better.” The thing is, hindi na ‘to puwedeng mag-work kasi wala na akong time para gumawa ng better pagkatapos ng exams. Hay naku. So. At the moment, may 250ml of Red Bull sa dugo ko, at sana matapos ko yung assignment para ma-cut ko na yung readings (kasi test ko din sa isang klase sa Thursday, so ‘pag nabasa ko na lahat ‘to, konti na lang).

Graduation Photos

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, University of Manitoba

Last Wednesday, I received my graduation photos’ proofs. Well, some of them ain’t that bad; I already made my choices about which photos to order. I just cannot believe that ordering a photo package is damn expensive, really.

The watermark on the proofs is scary, LOL.

Studio Portrait Shots

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, Photography, University of Manitoba

The graduation portrait package in my faculty does not offer “creative” shots like what my friends back in UP do have, so I asked Dom from the Photoclub to take the photos instead. I asked Joann, Lem, and Sybil to go to the shoot with me so that they can have their photos taken as well. More »

Wedding Photography Workshop

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, Photography, University of Manitoba

Two weeks ago I attended the wedding photography workshop facilitated by the photoclub. A handful of people showed up, and according to Dom he set up the said workshop for certain people. I guess they expressed their interest in learning how to take good wedding photos.

Anyway, here are some of the photos from the said workshop. I acted as a bride during the shoot, and Donny was the groom (thanks William for the photo).

Click, Shoot, Snap, Crank

In between studying, kumukuha ako ng litrato. Nitong nakaraang araw andun lang ako sa darkroom, studying, developing and taking pictures. Hindi pa lubos yung mga natutunan ko, but so far I really enjoyed:

  • Learning how to process and print my films
  • Learning how to use a TLR
  • Posing for a camera (or, like last Sunday’s workshop, lots of cameras)
  • Learning how to use a Rangefinder
  • Hanging out with people and learning lots of stuff from them

Last Sunday I attended the club’s Wedding Photography workshop and posed as a bride, haha! It was fun though. Kahiya nga kasi… He he he! Today I went to the portrait and medium format workshop and posed as well. Ang hirap pala magmodel. :(

Natutuwa ako kasi something keeps me really sane despite of the numerous school requirements that I have to work on.
