Paper

March 31st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Asides, Japanese Literature, University, University of Manitoba

Am in the process of writing the first draft of my essay for ASIA2670. I’m writing about Murakami Haruki. It feels weird that I am actually picking on one of the authors that I like, but hey, maybe this is the way I show my appreciation towards his works. But to tell the truth it’s a bit difficult writing about him and his books because my thoughts are, apparently, differ from what a majority of his fans think. They see him as a postmodern writer, but I don’t really see him as such. Siguro baka magtaka ang mga tao when they learn that I see Murakami as a traditional Japanese writer (even though I know that he is influenced by Western authors).

Pine Falls

I went out of town over the weekend. Cannot say much at the moment since I’m busy, but I do want to say that it is fun staying in a place where you really don’t have to worry about time and stress.

Took lots of photos that day. After all, I went on a trip with the photoclub. More »

Autorama World of Wheels 2008

March 28th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Winnipeg

As a way to “detox” myself after a stressful week (because of tests and other assignments), I went to the Autorama World of Wheels 2008 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. I’ve been wanting to attend a car show and take pictures of cars, so off I went since I have time after class.

I met up with Joann and Lem at the WCC and went inside a little after the start time of 5 in the afternoon. There were two floors that were used for this event — the second floor contains mainly motorcycles and a couple of eco-friendly cars. The third floor has the car displays and food stalls. More »

Mahirap maghanap ng date

March 27th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal

Grad ball ko sa May 2. At wala pa akong date.

Una talagang pumasok sa utak ko eh magdala ng isang female friend as a guest. The thing is, naisip ko, well, puwede siguro akong mag-aya ng guy na gusto ko di ba? *ubo ubo* So nung weekend, nag-isip ako kung mag-a-ask out ako.

Baka gusto mo namang ipa-book off kahit isang gabi lang?”

Pero hindi eh, so ayun. Medyo na-down ako ng araw na ‘to.

May in-ask din ako. Um-oo na. Kaso nung nalamang hindi group date, nagback-out, kasi may girl palang pino-pormahan, so baka wrong signal dun sa girl kapag niyaya ko si guy friend.

So back to square one.

Deadline of the Deadlines

March 24th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Asides, Personal, University, University of Manitoba

12 more requirements (including 3 final exams on the 3rd week of April). I still have to go over a bunch of readings (particularly in 3 classes) kasi masipag ako, ha ha! Hay. I could have done better.” The thing is, hindi na ‘to puwedeng mag-work kasi wala na akong time para gumawa ng better pagkatapos ng exams. Hay naku. So. At the moment, may 250ml of Red Bull sa dugo ko, at sana matapos ko yung assignment para ma-cut ko na yung readings (kasi test ko din sa isang klase sa Thursday, so ‘pag nabasa ko na lahat ‘to, konti na lang).

Graduation Photos

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, University of Manitoba

Last Wednesday, I received my graduation photos’ proofs. Well, some of them ain’t that bad; I already made my choices about which photos to order. I just cannot believe that ordering a photo package is damn expensive, really.

The watermark on the proofs is scary, LOL.

Studio Portrait Shots

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, Photography, University of Manitoba

The graduation portrait package in my faculty does not offer “creative” shots like what my friends back in UP do have, so I asked Dom from the Photoclub to take the photos instead. I asked Joann, Lem, and Sybil to go to the shoot with me so that they can have their photos taken as well. More »

Dimsum Sunday

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal

Sorry for the week-long backlogs. School is about to end soon so I usually spend my time reading, studying (uh, not really, but I try to) and preparing for my final exams and other requirements. I just cannot imagine how am I supposed to finish everything in three and a half weeks, excluding the third week of April which is mainly the date for my three final exams.

Anyway, last Sunday I went out with Andy and Andrew (whom we sometimes call Andy as well) for supposedly-breakfast-but-turned-into-dimsum-lunch. I thought that there were six of us going out but it turned out that only the three of us are available that day.

The university is, not surprisingly, really quiet on Sundays. Which I really like, since the whole place is chaotic during the weekdays. By the way, I had to meet them at school, that’s why I went there. Took the bus (the accordion one! Really neat) later and made some last-minute changes on our plans, and then went to King Street where the Winnipeg Chinatown is located. More »

Wedding Photography Workshop

March 22nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, Photography, University of Manitoba

Two weeks ago I attended the wedding photography workshop facilitated by the photoclub. A handful of people showed up, and according to Dom he set up the said workshop for certain people. I guess they expressed their interest in learning how to take good wedding photos.

Anyway, here are some of the photos from the said workshop. I acted as a bride during the shoot, and Donny was the groom (thanks William for the photo).

Cummulative Annoyances

March 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal

Sometimes I am wondering why get ticked off easily with things that aren’t necessarily harmful or annoying. Case in point: I hate _______’s kabaduyan and ka-OA-an. It really, really, ticks me off to the point that I will actually make fun of that person (uh, which happens more often than not).

But anyway. I was reading my psychology textbook earlier and I found this term: cumulative annoyances. According to the text, it happens when “people develop hypersensitive reactions of disgust and exasperation due to repeated exposure to small recurring nuisance.” To apply this, I find _______’s kabaduyan to be a recurring nuisance that is why I’ve become sensitive and easily disgusted by his actions.

So what’s my point? Actually, hindi ko alam. I just find it amusing that there’s actually a word to describe this “phenomenon.” Ha ha!
