Playing with Canon AE-1

February 27th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Photography

Majority of my shots were overexposed due to technical mistake (mine), so only a handful of prints were delivered to me. Nevertheless, I am so thrilled because a.) I love black and white and b.) I love film prints, grains and all. More »

Stardust, The Simpsons Movie

Stardust (2007)
I’ve read the book almost three years ago, so I can only remember fragments of what I read. Nevertheless, I did enjoy watching Stardust (more than the book, apparently). And reading that entry about the book, I saw that I made a comment about doing a Stardust movie. Well here’s my wish. Tama nga ako, maganda ngang gawing film yung story. I really liked the film; not the type of film that I would actually put on my favorites list, but was enough to keep me entertained. Mas na-enjoy ko ‘yung faery tale factor siguro kasi mas visual kapag movie. I just find it weird that they changed the protagonist’s name from Tristran to Tristan. Is it because the former is harder to pronounce?

Oh, and Ben Barnes is hot.

The Simpsons Movie (2007)

S-sir, I’m afraid you’ve gone mad with power…
Of course I have. You ever tried going mad without power? It’s boring. No one listens to you!

I was never a fan of The Simpsons, but I’ve seen a handful of episodes. This film was a riot. It was fun. It was stupid and witty at the same time. Natawa ako dahil namatay yung Green Day sa film, ha ha. Natawa rin ako when the person who was at the entrance of Alaska gave Homer a thousand dollars, he he. Natawa when ako when Ned Flanders was praying with his sons and then… something happened, ha ha! Sabaw ‘tong film na ‘to. But I guess that’s the reason why this movie is so fun to watch.

One more thing, the way the animation was made was really cool, although it felt kind of different (medyo old school kasi yung texture ng animation sa TV), but it was still good nonetheless. Oh yeah, Homer is really worthless.

One More Chance

One More Chance (2007)
Okay itong film na ito in terms of looking at a relationship in a very mature fashion. I mean, I think it’s rare (or virtually wala) for a Filipino romantic film to deal with people who are seemingly happy in love with each other and then suddenly the audience will realize that something is wrong. I admire this film for actually not being ‘pa-tweetums’ about love and stuff, like the way we see in other films.

While I am not going to dissect this film in regards of its cinematography, soundtrack, etc., I would rather give my comment with regards to the dynamics of Basha (Bea Alonzo) and Popoy (John Lloyd Cruz)’s relationship. The way I see it in the film kasi, Popoy is becoming “too safe” and “controlling” to the point that Basha feels that she does not exist if Popoy is not around. Sobrang overlap na ng buhay nila na she cannot actually distinguish who she is. Hence, the soul-searching. I think that people were to be asked whose fault was it (I mean, it’s not that we’re supposed to blame someone for the situation, but!), most people will probably say that it’s Popoy’s fault. More »

Lunar Eclipse (of the heart)

February 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Winnipeg

Pardon the sucky title (he he), but this is a photo that Tristan took using my Nikon D40 during the lunar eclipse last night. My friends went to my house yesterday for a dinner, Wii, Karaoke and movie and then we saw the eclipse outside. It was freezing though. :\

Last Spring Break

February 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, University of Manitoba

The official first day of my last reading week was marked by a new holiday here in Manitoba. I also went to work that day. So basically, everything started last Tuesday, which, in my opinion is pretty cramped but fun.

I met up with Lem later in the morning to accompany me to pick up some of my prints at Don’s Photo and to help me out with my scheduled photoshoot. After that we went to Spicy Noodle House. I love their Friend Banana and Ice Cream. ♥

Kelangan ko palang isingit na during the day I lost the cover of 50mm lens for my Canon AE-1. :(

After our lunch Lem and I went straight to MTS Centre to meet up with our friends (and real-life sweethearts, haha real life?) Sybil and Tristan for our photoshoot. They were kind enough to pose for me since I asked them to, just so I could practice. I never get to shoot a lot during regular school days kasi. More »

The Great Lamination Project

February 18th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal

I had a shoot cancelled last Saturday, so I just stayed at home and helped my parents and my cousin with some… construction work. My parents decided to remove the carpet on the living room and change it with laminate, so we spent the weekend removing the carpet, foams and staples, and then putting the laminate.

The living room looks a lot cozier now, probably because of the laminate/wood finish. I’m happy that it’s all over because it was a lot of work (especially for my tatay).

Post-Valentine’s Day Entry

February 18th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal, University of Manitoba

This is actually a postdated entry, but eventually I went out with my friends for dinner on 2/14. It was just a usual day for the majority of us, and then after our classes ended around 10 of us went to Miso for an all-you-can-eat Japanese food/sushi dinner. More »

On friends

February 14th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Personal

Nung 2006, tumambay lang ako kila Cheree. Nung 2007, lumabas ako with my female single friends.

This year, feeling ko wala lang akong gagawin. Since marketing ploy lang naman ang lahat (although masayang makatanggap ng bulaklak), might as well magtipid at mag-stay sa bahay. Mag-aaral na lang ako, ha ha ha!

No, seriously this year, I’m writing an entry for my friends here in Winnipeg, tutal, kung tungkol na rin lang naman sa pag-ibig ang February 14, might as well write something about the people that I love.

I think ilang beses ko na ring nasabing lumaki ang social network ko sa university when me and my friends established UM-Sigaw. There’s no denying that. I mean, the fact na mas naging close kami ni Tristan (na nataong high school batchmate ko dito) noong nabuo ang org is something na achievement na rin in a way. Habang lumalaki ang org, dumadami rin ang kakilala ko, and so on. More »

Let’s move on like this

February 13th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal, Photography, University of Manitoba

I’ve been wanting to join the Photo Club since 2005 but that time I didn’t have the guts to do so because I have no equipment and I felt that I’m not good.

Well anyway, I decided to give it a shot ulit when last January katabi ng AMF booth yung Photo Club booth and I happened to passed by the area and talked to one of the members kasi they were also helping us sa AMF, and to make the long story short a guy that I don’t know invited me to the club and I signed up!

I’ve been receiving mails for the past couple of weeks and I decided na I really want to take this seriously so I talked to the club’s mentor, Dom, and then kanina pumunta na ako sa club. There’s like me and Satomi (a new photography enthusiast) and Andy and then Dom. He showed me around the club room and saw the darkroom (hindi ko akalaing ganun kalaki pala yung loob ng club room, kasi yung front area lang ang nadadaanan namin eh) at kung ano-ano pang photography-related stuff that made my heart flutter, he he he.

Basta, ang saya! I mean I finally found a group of people here na nakakaintindi when I start talking about photography. And I’ll be learning heaps from them because they are mainly a b/w film photography club. Nevertheless, it’s going to be fun.

I’ll be getting my hands on a borrowed film slr either by the end of this week or during spring break, and then I’m going to take it from there.
