Canada Day ‘08

July 3rd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal, Photolog, Winnipeg

It was Canada’s birthday last Tuesday (July 1) and I had nothing else to do at home but relax (don’t blame me, I’m completing my 2-straight weeks of shift since yesterday). Since I anticipated this break, Cheree and I planned to go swimming at her place. She’ll be busy too since she got in to the Faculty of Nursing and her schedule will be hectic starting this summer.

I haven’t been to their backyard before because they just got their house not too long ago (I used to hang out at their old place, which is a 10-15 minute drive from my place). I thought it was going to rain at first because there were dark clouds when I woke up, but the sun shone eventually. More »

Bucaccino’s / The Cupcakery

June 25th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal, Photolog, Winnipeg

Went out today for a planned lunch date with Erica, whom I haven’t seen in months (last time was like, around November, with Julie). I figured that my birthday discount at Bucaccino’s is about to expire, so might as well use it while I have my day off.

Food is good, as usual. Had a great time hanging out with Erica and caught up with things and such. More »

Get Smart

Get Smart (2008)
I really wanted to watch Kung Fu Panda but I ended up watching Get Smart with a couple of friends.

It was fun to watch. I like the stunts, I especially love Steve Carell in this movie. Anne Hathaway is really beautiful. I fangirled a bit when I saw Masi Oka in a small role, but whatever. I think I like this movie more because of the humor (which is its selling point) and the stunts.

What? Am I supposed to write something really thought-provoking about this film? I think this film is really funny, and that’s all that matters, I guess.

Mawang (마왕)

June 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Entertainment, TV

After almost a week I managed to finish the Korean drama “Mawang.” I am not too fond of Korean dramas, but I decided to watch this because TBS is going to show a Japanese version of this, carrying the title Maou, and since I am anticipating that, I decided to familiarize myself with the plot. For the summary, please go here.

I think the over-all plot for the drama is really good. It’s dark, it’s twisted, it’s emotional. I just don’t like the idea that there are too many characters in the drama and the way they were introduced are a bit too abrupt, if not their appearance weren’t too smooth. It’s kind of like you’re watching the show and in around episodes 4-5 another one person appears and we kind of don’t know why they’re there, even though their appearances kind of suggest us that they’re a vital part of the story.

I like the detective’s character more than the lawyer’s, for some reason. Feeling ko nakakainis umarte yung lawyer dito. He looks cunning, for sure, pero medyo nakakainis siya. I guess I just kind of liked him during the last parts of the story where he was able to show that he’s having second thoughts about his plans, or at least, he is kind of satisfied with what he has done already. The most annoying character here is the stuttering nerd, ha ha. I think he’s more scary than annoying pa nga, but that only means the actor played his character really well.

There are too many flashbacks too. I’m not really a fan of flashbacks so it’s kind of annoying. But I think in general the show was well-made. Just my personal quirks, I guess. Oh, and BTW, I think it’s too long.

Social Person

June 22nd, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Personal, Winnipeg

Last week can be summed up in two words: BUSY and EXPENSIVE. I didn’t buy anything, really, it’s just that I went to two socials for two consecutive days. And Socials mean I have to pay for tickets, drinks and raffle/silent auction. But I think it’s fine though, considering that I don’t get to see my friends that much now.

Friday, I had to attend Sybil’s cousin’s social at Franco-Manitobain at Provencher. It was a huge party. Lem and Tristan went to my house first and then my dad and mom brought them at work because they need to pick me up. More »

Comiket ‘07 Haul

June 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Anime, Books, Japanese Pop Culture

I just got the parcel that I asked Boom to send me from last year’s Comiket. I asked her to get me some doujinshi for me and for Chris. I got one Prince of Tennis and two Death Note ones, and the rest are for Chris (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu).

Aside from that I also asked her to get me anything related to Honey and Clover. Mahal yung art book so she got me an animation guide instead.

On Repair

June 16th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Photography

Tinanong ko si Dom if it’s possible for me to bring the Nikon F55 back home para mapaayos sa Hidalgo. The basics: yung may-ari nito ay kaibigan ni Billiam at bumili na ng kapalit kasi bigla na lang ayaw mag-start. Eh mahal magpagawa ng camera dito, para ka na ring bumili ng bagong unit, so that’s what the owner did. But when I saw this at Dom’s office I thought na “salvage-able” (may ganito bang word?) pa naman, lalo na kung dadalhin sa Hidalgo, so I told him I’ll give it a shot.

I want this!

I think this is the secret to a great travel journal (and a proxy for my bulky Polaroid) that I am planning to create. This is a Fuji Instax Mini 7. There are new ones in the market but they’re pricey. Meh.

BUT I WILL GET THIS SOON! (But for now, I will keep on wishing.)
