Masa Japanese Restaurant

This is actually a delayed entry since I went to Masa Japanese Restaurant last month with Jona. The restaurant is 5-10 minutes away from the university so we decided to go there and give it a try. I was surprised so see that the place looks a bit smaller than other Japanese restaurants here in the city. It was also packed since we arrived there past noon so people are coming over for lunch.
This time I decided to try their bento lunch, which is around 9-10 dollars plus tax. I never get the chance to order this in other restaurants that I am familiar of since I am already used to the taste of their sushi (hence, I go there because of the sushi).

Anyway, as far as I remember I ordered a beef teriyaki bento (but please do not take my word for it, it’s been a month since I had this so I really don’t remember what I ate). It was good, but for the most part I felt cheated because the beef teriyaki’s combined with bean sprouts (toge) and other veggies, so the meat looks plenty at first glance. I had to ask Jona if this is “normal” since she ordered the same thing when we went out a couple of weeks ago prior to this visit. She then commented that she was about to ask me the same thing because my meal looks less compared to what she had before. So there, I was a bit… disappointed about it. It was just the meat, but the rest of the servings (i.e. Inari, Assorted Tenpura, etc.) were all okay.
The servers there are really nice, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is good. People get to choose to seat at either the traditional seat (which isn’t really traditional), or at the dining area, or at the bar, where the customers can watch the itamae-san do his work.
I’ll probably give the restaurant 3 out of 5 because of that disappointing experience about the bento box. Masa is located at 10-2077 Pembina Highway (a distance away Earl’s and McDonald’s).
