The Film in My Fridge

14 Aug

Ah, that felt good. Haha.

So FINALLY, I got my own fridge where I can store my photographic films. I chanced upon this at a local classified ad. I almost didn’t get it because the seller said someone was scheduled to pick it up on the day I e-mailed her. But turned out that the person did not pick it up so she contacted me again. :)

After much of a ruckus on Thursday and Friday, I ended up picking the fridge (it’s Danby DWC172BL 17 Bottle) with my dad. I had to do another spreadsheet for my films because for some reason I end up losing the files. Ack.

Anyway, I hope I’m not going to get any bad looks or anything like that. Some people are more hardcore than I am. :P Read the rest of this entry »

25@365: Day 071

12 Aug

AUGUST 12, 2010
– I had some nice finds at the local thrift store last Wednesday I think, and I finally got to play around them today.

First off was a very cheap unit of Canon AF35 II or Autoboy 2. I know some people might be wondering why I spent two bucks with this thing… But I was just thrilled because this is the same camera unit that my family owned and basically I grew up with. Our old unit’s long gone and dead in 2003. So imagine the bouts of nostalgia that this brought!

The second unit is more of a toy camera fetish that I’ve had since I started playing around with lomography. I found this pretty neat Lipton Noodle Toy Camera. Haha. It’s cute, and I think it’s basically for kids. But whatever. Can’t wait to try them soon.

Super Duper Find

19 May

My boyfriend has pointed out (in several occasions) that every time he scouts for good deals re: photographic equipment, he gets the not-so-good ones. But when he finds stuff on my behalf, I get the best stuff.

Tough luck. Ha ha.

Anyway, these just got in the mail this week. He has found me a very very beautiful Nikon FM2n in black. It has always been my dream to own my own mechanical Nikon SLR but the price isn’t too good out there. And then my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this one. I also got a used (but very minty) Sekonic light meter.

He calls this the “evil camera”. He spent a considerable amount of time staring at this camera, claiming that it absorbed his energy. Ha ha. Aside from small scuffs and one distinguishable brassing at the top, the whole body’s in pristine condition — shows that the owner did really take care of this baby. Same thing with the light meter (they were owned by different people). I know that the marks add personality and history to film camera bodies, but it feels different when you have an almost-new unit.

I’m excited to use this. I don’t have a “manual” lens with me, so I’m trying out my 50mm 1:1.8 D lens on this one, and I’ll take it from there. :)

Vivitar IC100

16 May

I went to Value Village today to donate some old shoes and then Ate and I went inside to scout for beach wear. I ended up walking towards the electronics section after getting some nice beach tops. Found lots of ps film cameras, but two units got my attention: one was a Canon Sureshot (Autoboy) which brought a surge of memories since that was our first family camera; the other one’s a cheap plastic toy camera under the brand Vivitar IC 100.

I ended up buying the plastic toy camera because I don’t have batteries with me to test out the Canon unit. I’ve seen some good reviews about it, and having another plastic toy Vivitar (I also have the Ultra Wide and Slim), I am pretty sure that it will help me make yummy lomographs later. :D

Yashica-A TLR

19 Jan

I received this a couple of days before Christmas from my boyfriend.

I never owned a TLR before let alone a white one (it looks greyish IRL) so I was really excited when I received this.

I had to go around and search for instructions on how to use this. Kelvin sent this with a roll of film in it already (he did a test roll but didn’t finish it) so I had to use the rest of the remaining frames here in Winnipeg. I don’t have time though so I just shot around the neighborhood. Read the rest of this entry »
