Only recently have I acquired a DSLR. This was partially because of the people I am around. However, I will always remember my first encounter with manual photography which lead to my final decision of emptying my wallet for something new and shiny. Although many people take pictures nowadays, it is the way one can utilize it that will make you love it or hate it. Everyone has their reasons for taking photos and whatever the result is, it helps keep photography alive. I have to agree with you on almost everything you have said.
