And so it is, yes it is

31 Jul

Too many things are taking place.

Been home for a week now, and it seems that time is just zooming right in front of me. I haven’t really accomplished anything except for some work-hunting stuff (which is still ongoing), but today I knew I had to do something because, well, time is flying by. In as much as I want to slack before school starts (I mean, I deserve some rest time, after that crazy Edmonton stint), I have a feeling that I shouldn’t waste any second. Mmm. I’m making my own set of stressors.

A lot of packing and boxing done because La Familia‘s moving to a new place by mid-August. So far so good.

August is a busy month. I’m sure of that.

Sometimes, I think it is okay to lust

28 Jul

So I went to Prairieview‘s garage sale last Saturday and because of some weird turn of events I ended up with nothing but Mike’s stainless steel tanks and reels. LOL. But the sight of the Leica M7 made my day, only to realize that I need around 3 grand to get the damn thing.

Kapitbahay

28 Jul

My non-biological brother Alvir came at my house the day after I arrived home. He wanted to hang out, and so we did.

We spent the early parts of the afternoon just talking and bonding. I just woke up when he came over so imagine that I was still not myself. We basically played around with my cameras. Alvir’s starting to get hooked with film photography and I am encouraging him to do so. After the quick rainshower, we decided to go to the community school across my house to take photos. I took the opportunity to use up my remaining films inside three of my film cameras. Read the rest of this entry »

Going Home

28 Jul

This is a delayed entry. Well, I do need to rest and catch up with people, and I had to fix my PC which I haven’t used for half a year and has become a sorry state of an equipment because it was too slow. Nevertheless, it’s never too late for nice and shiny photos.

Contrary to what I expected, I slept a lot on my way home. Too much, if you ask me. I didn’t sleep long, I actually got a lot of “mini sleeps” if you want to call it that way (I can’t really call it a nap). I was able to get a more steady sleep later in the afternoon though, but the first few hours were rough. I departed Edmonton at almost 1, and slept and woke up every hour.

This was the view I saw when I woke up around 4:30 in the morning. At that time I actually have no idea where I was.

Taking photos inside a moving train is hard. I was planning to stick with my trusty 50mm but to no avail. I decided to use my kit lens. Lots of blurry photos not to mention annoying sensor and lens dust. Anyway, I decided to catch some sleep after taking enough photos. Read the rest of this entry »

Let us not make a goodbye

22 Jul

It’s funny how I never really contemplated the meaning of the word goodbye until someone told me to never say it (at least, in front of him). Yes, I find it odd, because I’ve said goodbye numerous times in within different kinds of situations and between different sets of people (regardless of whether they are important to me or not), so I should be used to it (or at least I should know what to expect).

I had to say my farewell to my friends and colleagues here in Edmonton since I have to head back to Winnipeg to continue my studies there. I have explained the situation so many times it sounded like a script now, haha. I know that eventually I have to leave because I am not an Edmontonian in the first place, it’s just that this departure actually came way too early than anyone has expected. People have told me to just stay here, but family is family, and it would be blunt to say but my life is still in Winnipeg, and Edmonton is only but a part of my journey to attain my goals. Unfortunately I had to do some career shift because of personal reasons, hence the need to go back to my family and to start a new trip to reach a new set of goals.

This might sound too serious to other people, but staying out of my home province for the first time (and within a considerable number of months) has helped me widen my perspective, meet new people, acquire new responsibilities and learn a lot of things. I don’t think coming here is a waste of time or money, because I believe I learned things here that actually shaped the way I think and the way I behave right now.

As you start reading this, I am probably boarding the train on my way home. But I am not making a goodbye.
